Bethel W. (Roberts) Thomas

98, a life-long Janesville area resident died April 21, 2016 at Rock Haven Nursing Home. Bethel was born on April 6, 1918 in La Prairie Township, the daughter of Walter and Lucy (Pann) Feirn. She grew up in La Prairie Township where she attended the Belding School for 8 years. She graduated from Janesville high School in 1936. Bethel married John E. Roberts on February 24, 1940. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1988. She married Merlin Thomas on January 4, 1991. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2006. Bethel drove school bus for the Hilbert Fenrick Bus Service for the Bradford Community Schools and later was food service manager for 23 years for the Clinton Community Schools. She was a member of Emerald Grove Congregational Church U.C.C., the Faithful Followers and the Emerald Grove Cemetery Auxiliary.
Survivors include three children, John (Linda) Roberts of Salem, WI, Sandra (Fred) Clint of Janesville, Ronald (Noreen) Roberts of Beloit; eight grandchildren, Cheryl (Guy) Borre of Beloit, Darrell Clint of Janesville, Patrick (Cindy) Clint of Minnetonka, MN, Jeffrey (Nikki) Roberts of South Beloit, IL, Kristine (Jeff) Seeley of Clinton, Jason (Jennifer) Roberts of Beloit, Jennifer (Scott) Betourney of Pembroke, NH, Karin (Adam) Kirsch of Kenosha, WI; eight great-grandchildren, Matthew (Dessa) Laursen, Kelsey Laursen, Justin Seeley, Mallory Seeley, Dylan Roberts, Devin Roberts, William Clint and Estelle Clint; one step-great-grandson, Lucas Borre and one great-great-granddaughter, Avery Laursen. In addition to her parents and her two husbands, Bethel was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Strang and Florence Roberts as well as three brothers, Fred Feirn, Wallace Feirn and Ralph Feirn.
A memorial service will be held at the Emerald Grove Congregational Church UCC on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Ligman officiating. The family will meet friends at the Church on Saturday, May 14th from 10 to 11 a.m. Private interment will be in Emerald Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Emerald Grove Congregational Church U.C.C. or the Emerald Grove Cemetery Auxiliary. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
